Privacy & Safety

Your safety comes first. Here's how we protect your data and how you can protect yourself.

Your data is encrypted

All traffic between your device and AfroConnect uses TLS (HTTPS) so it can't be read in transit. Messages, profiles, and photos are stored encrypted at rest by our infrastructure provider. We never sell your personal data.

How reporting works

Tap the Report button on any profile or match to flag harassment, scams, fake profiles, inappropriate content, an underage user, or anything else. Reports go to our moderation team, are confidential, and the reported person is never notified.

Serious violations lead to account removal. When we detect a pattern across multiple reports, we act faster.

How blocking works

Blocking is instant. A blocked user can't message you, can't see you in Discover, and you won't see them either. Blocks are private — the other person isn't told. You can block from any profile or open chat.

Verified badges

A verified badge next to a name means the profile has passed our verification checks. Verified members get a small badge on their profile card and in chat. Verification is not a guarantee of anything else — still use the safety tips.

ID & age verification (coming soon)

Coming soon — powered by a verification partner.

Government-ID and live-selfie age checks will be handled by a dedicated third-party vendor. AfroConnect will store only the pass/fail result — never a copy of your ID.

Safe-dating basics

  • Tell a friend or family member where you're going and with whom.
  • Meet in a public place the first few times.
  • Video-chat before meeting in person.
  • Never send money — not for emergencies, visas, or plane tickets.
  • Trust your gut. Report anything that feels off.
